Chris' Chili Quest

I love random things, and Youtube is a great place to see lots of them. One day my curiosity led me to some videos of people eating super-hot chili peppers. Over time I became so fascinated by this that I decided to try it myself, starting at the bottom of the heat scale and working my way up. This blog, which originated as wall posts on Facebook, chronicles my chili adventures. Enjoy!

The purple bhut.

It’s not a bhut at all, not really sure what it is exactly. Definitely at least part chinense, sweet taste, mild texture (almost soft, with thinish skin). Taste was ok, I would say a 6 out of 10. Heat was in the hab range, so pretty good. Overall, not exciting enough to bother with in the future.

Test: the Jamaican Hot Chocolate Habanero

Tested this nasty guy last week. I was concerned about its heat level and the empty state of my stomach, so I cut it on half lengthwise for the test. Glad I did!

Strong sickly-sweet chinense smell, taste was more mild though. Heat took a bit to build but was very strong when it kicked in. All the heat was on the tongue…torched it.

This pepper is rated at about 450k scoville, and that felt accurate. It attacked my stomach just as the red 7 pot did..making me feel like I had to puke for a good hour. Lesson here: of you’re going to test a really hot pepper, eat a good meal first!
